For me, heart is equivalent to the original spark of nature inside
everyone of us that never dies. It's not meant to be blown out,
actually. Nature always preserves this tiny light deep inside the folds
of our emotions, thoughts and actions for the time when we may turn to
it as a last resort. This spark is torchbearer of all the divine
principles of humanity, love and peace. And you can never feel lost even
in the darkest times of life if you let the flashes guide your through.
But men of character go one step further. They feed this spark of
natural illumination, our heart, with due trust and authority, and turn
it into a radiant flame that not only brightens their own way, but also
inspires others around them.
Our heart, as I said, is the ultimate source of all good that nature
meant for us. But we also see people following their heart, that is,
their desires and wishes, and fall a prey to the most terrible
consequences. Shouldn't it shake our belief in heart? And shouldn't we
let our minds, thoughts, intellects take over and dethrone heart from
this noble office of illuminating the path to be trodden by humanity?
I think otherwise. I believe it's not your heart that leads you to
destruction. I believe it's only heart that knows the ultimate
consequences of events. It's only heart that may sometimes command you
to do something harmful for yourself for the time being, but far more
beneficial in the long run. It's only heart that forbids you from
something that looks great at the moment, but will deteriorate your
peace in future. It's only heart that pours wisdom from the pens of
philosophers and saints.
What happens actually is that you mistake your mind for your heart. Your
whims and wantonness are not the commands of your heart. They may
actually have your mind as their source. People have physical habits.
They have emotional habits. And they also have intellectual habits. Our
wishes may be provoked by any of these, even all of these, and we may
still be thinking that it's what we feel at heart. We don't know that
for actually feeling, we'll have to delve deeper across
the folds that we have wrapped around our heart. Our heart is always
there, but it's so much suffocated and its voice is so feeble that our
intellectual and emotional noise easily consumes it.
What we need to do is always the same. Nature doesn't change. Nor its
oracle, the heart. Let's remind ourselves the natural rules that turn
the spark of divinity into flame, the flame into fire, the fire into sun
so that Mother Nature is proud of her child, the man of heart!
- Don't over-think. Animals too live, and as a rule, live happier than humans.
- Do the best you can. If you don't know what's best in a given situation, you at least know what's best to the best of your knowledge. Do it.
- Wait and see. Nature has time as its greatest tool. The impatient try to go faster than time and end up with time running faster than velocity of light.
- Love, no matter how much you hate it! Antidote may be bitterer than poison, but it's the antidote.
- Believe in goodness. Never let anyone, including yourself, tell you that the days are gone when good resulted in good. They live in a world that has only one tag: unnatural.
